French Drain Camera Inspection | G.S. Dubois

What is the purpose of a camera inspection?

This test primarily allows us to verify the condition and proper functioning of the French drain in order to determine the causes of drainage efficiency problems or water infiltration.

This allows us to determine whether it is truly necessary to replace the drain or simply clean it. Simple, quick, and effective, the camera test has become an excellent way to assess the condition of a drain, whether for periodic inspection, maintenance, or for conducting an inspection as part of a property sale.

What happens during a camera inspection?

Our specialist inspects and assesses the nature of your property and the work required to perform the test.

To perform the camera inspection, at least two access shafts are dug and chimneys are installed on each of them connected to your French drain. During well excavation, we collect all the information necessary to determine the configuration and effectiveness of your drainage system.

This information includes, among other things:

  • The exact depth, layout, and type of drain
  • The soil type at the perimeter of your foundation walls
  • The thickness, quantity, quality, and type of drainage material used

Drain Camera Inspection

One of our specialized technicians inserts the camera into your drain and records its progress centimeter by centimeter to detect any anomalies. The camera's path is monitored live on-site, and the recording is subsequently analyzed at our facilities. The final analysis is provided in a detailed report along with a copy of the recording and our recommendations for corrective actions, if necessary.

Once the camera inspection is complete, the access points remain in place. This allows you to perform periodic inspections or drain cleanings whenever you wish, without needing to carry out further work. Furthermore, if you are experiencing an iron ochre problem, the access points will be an excellent way to easily clean your drain at the recommended frequency and at a lower cost.

One solution is to install cleanout risers, which allow for surface cleaning of the French drain using high-pressure water. This should be done once or twice a year. If the drain is completely blocked, it must be replaced. This is often the case when it is surrounded by a geotextile membrane, an ideal environment for bacteria. In this case, the entire system must be replaced with a rigid PVC drain covered with crushed stone.
